FAQs
- How long does it take to master one song?
Most songs are done in a few days, but contact me if you need it sooner. Though my workflow is brisk, I prefer to add a little buffer for a fresh listen before finalizing. For albums, I therefore recommend discussing specifics so we can set the right timeline. - How many revisions do I get with a mastering job?
My goal is to get you a result you love. If I don't get it perfect on the first render, I’ll incorporate your changes within three revisions. For unusually complex songs, we can agree on a custom rate for additional iterations. - Can you master an entire album so it sounds cohesive?
Absolutely. That’s one of the main hallmarks of my approach—creating a unified, consistent sound across all tracks and also across delivery platforms (home stereo, car radio, PC, ear buds, etc.) - Can you match my track to a reference song?
Absolutely, but if the reference track is poorly mixed, we should talk through options so your track sounds even better. - Do you offer mixing or mastering?
Both. Mixing works on the individual instrument tracks before combining them; whereas mastering only works on the final stereo mix. I provide them both under the same rate, as needed. - What makes your polish different from cheaper automated services?
It’s not just 30 years of experience—it’s measurable, technical attention to detail. Compare my masters to others at the same volume and you'll hear the improvement in fullness. - What should I listen for? You want all the elements of the song to be well-balanced at any volume, on any platform. Beware of mixes that are good in one environment, but don't sound consistently great in every situation.
- What if I don't have professional ears? You know it’s good if you like it! At first, you might not be able to articulate why a mix sounds good — but over time you'll notice what good mixes get right, such as: no "surprise" frequencies that suddenly jump out and yank you from the experience.
- How would you describe your style? I provide a full, powerful, engaging FM radio sound, but without the soul-less overcompression. I'll hit the sweet spot with a robust mix that still preserves enough dynamic range.
- What loudness will my track bedo you apply?
Any you want, of course, though many export to ~-10 dB RMS. I prefer ~ ‑13 db RMS, since streaming services will normalize down to their own LUFS targets (e.g., Spotify 14, Apple 16, YouTube 13). - What file format and sample rate should I send you?
WAV is preferred, but common formats are fine. I work at 16‑bit, 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. - How do I submit my track(s) for mastering?
Just send me a shared link from your favorite transfer platform (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.). - What payment methods do you accept?
PayPal, Venmo, or bank wire. - What if I have other questions?
Feel free to contact me. I’m happy to go over any details or meet on Zoom for specifics.
